HELLO Hookah enthusiasts, get ready for an exciting journey the "Tangiers 5" – a new series of flavors that are redefining what we expect from Tangiers.
These new blends promise to deliver unique, bright, and fresh experiences, This feels like a "new era" for the brand. Let's dive into each of them!
This flavor is a standout for its uniqueness. While basil is becoming more common in hookah, Basil Strawberry truly shines on its own. The basil flavor is notably strong and fresh-tasting, while the strawberry is very jammy, rather than syrupy or fresh fruit. It's strong, fruity, and brings a brightness to the bowl. Interestingly, it reminds me of an old-school Tangiers flavor called Cool Strawberry from the F line. This flavor is fantastic for mixing, especially with Static Starlight, Mango Fling, and Cilantro Pineapple.
Voted as the most anticipated flavor to be reviewed, Blueberry Grapefruit has quickly become a favorite. Upon smelling it, you'll immediately get a tart grapefruit note combined with a sweet blueberry. When smoked, both flavors come through nicely. The inhale offers a unique sweetness, reminiscent of old-school Tangiers flavors like Blue Gumball or Dark Plum, almost like a "blow pop". The exhale is more of that desirable tart grapefruit, with nice citrus background notes, while the blueberry taste comes through as well. This flavor is strong, sweet, and tart, making it a potential Hookah Lounge Hit.
Cilantro Pineapple is a truly unique flavor that challenges taste buds. Cilantro can be divisive – some find it fresh, others soapy – so be aware of your preference. However, even for someone not typically fond of pineapple hookah flavors, this blend has been enjoyable. The pineapple is distinctly candy-like, not fresh or fruity, and is reminiscent of Mexican or Hispanic pineapple candies with Tajin or chamoy. The cilantro kicks in the background to brighten the entire bowl. It's excellent as a stand-alone flavor but also highly recommended for mixing, particularly with Mango Fling.
For fanatics of strong fruit flavors, Mango Fling is a must-try. Unlike the fresh, natural profile of some mango flavors, this is a candy mango flavor, sitting right on the edge of being syrupy. Despite its candy nature, it's nice, fresh, and bright when smoked. It's a testament to the new direction Tangiers is taking with its flavoring, offering something different yet still familiar. Mango Fling is also highlighted as a wonderful mixing option, you can mix it with any of the newer flavors or go in the back catolog and make something different and unique.
The final flavor in the "Tangiers 5" lineup, Muerte Por Arroz (meaning "Death by Rice"), is a complex and unique offering. It is not horchata, but rather a distinct rice flavor with prominent cinnamon notes. It also features a woody and herbal background note, adding to its complexity. On the inhale, you get that distinct rice flavor, while the exhale brings out more of the cinnamon and an earthy taste. It's very dessert-like and very strong, appealing to those who enjoy savory or milky rice-type flavors.
While my personal favorite remains Blueberry Grapefruit, with Basil Strawberry being a close second, Muerte Por Arroz is definitely worth trying, especially if you can sample it at a hookah lounge first.
Experience the New Tangiers Era!
The "Tangiers 5" series genuinely represents a new direction for Tangiers, offering bright, fresh, and unique flavors while still retaining the classic Tangiers essence. To me these are a Home Run!
